Q1. Two quantities x and y are related by the relation y = 5x + 3. Make a point table for 4 different values of x.

Solution

The relation is: y = 5x + 3 Taking x = 1, y = 5 x 1 + 3 = 8 Taking x = 2, y = 5 x 2 + 3 = 13 Taking x = 3, y = 5 x 3 + 3 = 18 Taking x = 4, y = 5 x 4 + 3 = 23 Table is: x 1 2 3 4 y 8 13 18 23
Q2. Write X-coordinate and Y-coordinate of the following points: (i) (8, -3) (ii) (4, 1) (iii) (-6, 4)

Solution

(i) In (8, -3) X-coordinate is 8 Y-coordinate is -3. (ii) In (4, 1) X-coordinate is 4 Y-coordinate is 1. (iii) In (-6, 3) X-coordinate is -6 Y-coordinate is 3.
Q3. Which of the following points lie on y-axis? (0, 1), (-1, 0), (7, 0), (0, -4), (0, 4), (5, 0)

Solution

A point with zero x-coordinate lies on y-axis, i.e., a point of the form (0, b) lies on y-axis. Thus, points lying on y-axis are: (0, 1), (0, -4), (0, 4).
Q4. Write the name of quadrant in which the following points lie: (i) (-8, 1) (ii) (-3, -1) (iii) (1, 2)

Solution

(i) (-8, 1) Here, X-coordinate is negative and Y-coordinate is positive, Therefore (-8, 1) lies in quadrant II. (ii) (-3, -1) Here, X-coordinate is negative and Y-coordinate is also negative, Therefore (-3, -1) lies in quadrant III. (iii) (1, 2) Here, both X-coordinate and Y-coordinate are positive, Therefore (1, 2) lies in quadrant I.
Q5. Write the coordinate points for which abscissa and ordinate are given. (i) Abscissa = 0, ordinate = 9 (ii) Abscissa = -2, ordinate = -3 (iii) Ordinate = 6, abscissa = -6

Solution

(i) Abscissa = 0, ordinate = 9 Coordinate is (0, 9) (ii) Abscissa = -2, ordinate = -3 Coordinate is (-2, -3) (iii) Ordinate = 6, abscissa = -6 Coordinate is (-6, 6)
